Martha was one of two beautiful ravens kept by Maud Tothill, St Nicholas Priory’s first curator. She started working at the priory in 1916. She was a fantastic publicist, with an excellent eye for a story, and would probably have given the Instagram influencers of today a run for their money!
Martha and Maud are the inspiration for one of our new kids activities, just produced for the amazing St Nicholas Priory - Exeter's oldest building. All four of these activities are available as a free download from the St Nicholas Priory website, and IRL when they reopen.
Here are two fantastic interpretations, one by young artist Ruby Robinson, age 14, and the other by the amazing Alice Herrick.
